BCTL and IMF Hold Final Discussions for the 2026 Article IV Consultation

Díli, 28 August 2026 — Banco Central de Timor-Leste (BCTL) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today held final discussions as part of the 2026 Article IV Consultation.

The discussions focused on recent developments and the outlook for the financial sector, including banking sector resilience, liquidity conditions, credit growth, financial inclusion, and the development of the domestic capital market.

BCTL highlighted its ongoing efforts to strengthen financial sector resilience and deepen financial intermediation in support of sustainable private sector development.

The discussions also addressed BCTL’s priorities to strengthen liquidity management, develop the domestic capital market, improve financial infrastructure and the payments ecosystem, and maintain financial stability.

BCTL welcomes the IMF’s continued policy dialogue and technical assistance in these areas and expresses its appreciation for the constructive engagement and recommendations provided by the IMF throughout the mission.
